If you have dreamt that you have gone through paradise with a rose in your hand \ and in the morning you wake up and discover that you are still holding the rose in your hand. \ If you wake up, if you wake up.\ In your hand you hold the proof that you are not in paradise, that perhaps you saved a rose. —João Delgado

In the room to the left are photographs by Chen Cohen, with gestures of caregiving, a body that treats and holds, the individual and the collective. The patient’s absence is an expression of our being in a state of giving to others.

The following room holds a slender, delicate sculpture by Noa Arad Yairi: a split head with a posture of concealing the gaze. The head ‘sculpts itself’, diverging into questions about cruelty, gazing at us facing it, staring at us inside of it. The figure covers her eyes so as not to see, but the movement is also an expression of the attempt to understand.

Opposite to it stands a young girl’s dress of ashes. Hannan Abu-Hussein made the sculpture from fabric and ashes: girls and boys; war; and the need to mourn each and every child.

Another room presents Meital Covo’s archive of the soul: an ethnography of breaths and voices from a vocal catalog of the era post-October 7th, 2023. The archive contains sounds from the immediate geographic and mental environs surrounding Mamuta and Hansen House in Jerusalem, in Israel, and the immediate expression of the connection between the conscious and the non-conscious.

The final room is one of hope for a different possibility: a connection between clown-policewoman Officer Az-Oolay in Jerusalem and Lulu and Riwaa residing in Gaza. The sound of a shofar is sent out to them, while Riwaa’s voice is sent out in our direction. Just – to take a moment to listen.
