Description
ousbir was a walled-off district—the first of its kind in the world—established in Casablanca in the 1920s, during the early years of French rule in Morocco as a protectorate (1912- 1956). It was created to provide sexual services to thousands of soldiers, locals, and tourists from across the globe. The district operated within a deliberately staged Orientalist fantasy, under harsh police and medical control.
