Description

The Passage in the Tear Ducts is Normal is a collection of photographs and texts integrated as a mosaic. In her work, Tzedakah grapples with autobiographical materials, never distancing art from the grayness of everyday life. The shades of gray, in fact, constitute her creation and form its rich spectrum. Throughout the fragmented puzzle that unfolds before us, the life of a young woman over the course of a decade is revealed—moving between Tel Aviv, London, Amsterdam, and Poland—a woman searching for the presence of her own body and for an unalienated human and urban presence.

The book juxtaposes people whom Tzedakah met for a fleeting moment on a train, landscapes, family members, and partners, while, both in photography and text, her physical and emotional hopes and struggles unfold. The love story woven in The Passage in the Tear Ducts is Normal portrays love in all its complexities and the often-depressing mundanity of everyday life. Thus, an intriguing narrative emerges—one that resists the genre of “love stories.” It is hard not to feel connected to the sensitive woman whose eyes are open to both her inner self and the external urban space she occupies, as well as to the couple who speaks and remains silent in three languages.
