The Question of Image Control in Poland in the 70s and 80s.

The show deals with the lack of possibilities of creation of legal channels of information at that time, channels alternate to those of the official propaganda, links with the very restricted access to the recording equipment. access to the communication tools guarantees the control over encod- ing reality – the camera is the tool giving sense and meaning.

The Jerusalem Film Festival and Mamuta at the daniela passal art & media center present the Israeli Video Art and Experimental Award

logo_festival

Eleven works, out of over 80 submissions, were chosen for the video art and experimental cinema competition. They reflect the great diversity in the video artworks produced over the last two years by Israeli artists working in Israel and abroad. Most of the artists are under the age of forty and at different stages of their artistic careers. Their works deal with notions of ritual, modernism, politics, and personal memory.

The renewal of the competition, the only one of its kind in Israel, is an attempt to promote experimental filmmaking, a field that does not otherwise have many channels of support. The Festival provides an international platform for the presentation of the works and helps give experimental cinema a central place alongside the traditional screen arts. A first prize monetary award and second prize in editing studio hours are made possible by the generous donation of the Jerusalem Foundation, the Ostrovsky Family Fund, and Mamuta at the Daniela Passal Art and Media Center.
